The positions are at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and will be attached to the Department of Informatics.
The Department wishes to employ two associated professors - one within Software Technology and Information Systems and one within Distributed Systems and Microelectronic Systems.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, be actively engaged in research, with a high publication rate, an international research network and, preferably, experience in applying for funding from EU or national research funding agencies. He or she will have teaching responsibilities for courses on all levels and in educational programs connected to the research group. The position will also include coordination and planning, supervision and examination of students, as well as taking part in the administrative task of the groups and the department.
Description of the department:
As of August 2007 the department employs: 25 full professors, 25 associate/assistant professors, 39 part time professors (20%), and about 70 research associates (Post Docs and PhD-fellows), about 2/3 of whom have external funding.
The department’s teaching covers five major areas of informatics: Software Technology, Micro-/nanoelectronics, Mathematical Modelling, Distributed Systems (Communication Technology) and Information Systems
The department awards degrees at three levels: Bachelor, Master, and PhD. There are approximately 1300 undergraduate students, 500 Master's students, and 150 PhD-students at the department. About 110 different courses are given at the department.

At the University of Oslo no one without a Ph.D. or comparative qualifications, will be employed in a permanent scientific position.
The application must contain information about education, former positions, scientific and pedagogical activities and administrative experience. The applicants must, within the deadline, send 4 - four copies of:
- The application, CV and other attachments.
- Scientific papers that the applicant wants to be taken into special consideration in the evaluation process.
- A list of all scientific papers and where they are published.
- An account of the papers the applicant wants to be taken into special consideration.
- Documentation of pedagogical qualifications, activity making knowledge available to the public and other qualifications that the applicant wants to be taken into consideration in the evaluation process.
The number of papers submitted for special evaluation should normally not exceed ten.
Scientific papers that are still in preparation at the time of the application deadline, may be submitted within four weeks after the deadline, provided the applicant gave notice of this in the application.

In accordance with the current guidelines, the main emphasis will be on the quality of the submitted scientific papers. The successful applicant must have a basic pedagogical qualification, and applicants that at the time of employment cannot provide documentation of such basic qualifications, will have to obtain this within two years of employment. The university will offer a course leading up to this qualification. Pedagogical qualifications beyond the basic ones may be taken into consideration in the ranking of scientifically qualified applicants.
Normally an interview will be an element of the employment process, and some applicants may be asked to give a trial lecture.
