Postdoctoral position in seismology (broadband data analysis)
POSITION AS POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN SEISMOLOGY (broadband data analysis)
is available at the Department of Geosciences (http://www.geo.uio.no/english/).
Job
description:
The position has a duration of 2 years, starting early
2009. It is one of several temporary positions available in Norway and other
European countries in the framework of the ESF EUROCORES programme TOPO-EUROPE.
The present position will be located at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Oslo, which is leading
the EUROCORES cooperative project TopoScandiaDeep (http://www.geo.uio.no/TopoScandiaDeep). The overall objective
of the project is to search in the lithospheric structure for processes which
can explain the origin of the present high topography of the Scandinavian
mountains.
The candidate will analyse broadband seismological data
newly acquired in Southern Norway (MAGNUS
project) in order to establish a seismic model of the Scandinavian lithosphere.
The emphasis for the present position will be on the analysis of the capabilities
of the seismological data in the noise frequency range to constrain the crustal
and sub-Moho seismic model.
In Oslo,
the candidate will cooperate closely with the cooperative project leader, prof.
Valérie Maupin, and with another researcher appointed on the project. In
addition, the successful candidate is expected to interact with the other
partners of the project (Univ. of Bergen, Norwegian Geological Survey, Univ.of Karlsruhe,
Univ. of Aarhus,
Univ. of Copenhagen, VU Amsterdam) and will
take part in project meetings as well as TOPO-EUPOPE and other international
meetings.
Preferred starting date: As soon as possible after
January 1., 2009.
Required
qualifications:
The candidate should have a PhD in seismology at the
time of appointment. Experience with surface wave tomography and/or analysis of
noise is an advantage, but all candidates with a different but strong
background in seismology and with demonstrated ability to adapt to new
challenges will be considered. Good communication skills, ability to work
independently as well as to cooperate with international partners, are also important.
Applicants should submit:
- Application letter including a statement of interest
and indicating a preferred starting date;
Curriculum vitae including one set of certified copies
of certificates;
- A list of published and unpublished works;
- Three copies of a maximum of 5 scientific
works (printed or non-printed) that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation
committee.
- Names and contact information of two references.
The University
of Oslo wishes to recruit
more women in research positions. Women are encouraged to apply. Further
guidelines are given by the following web page: http://www.uio.no/admhb/reglhb/personal/tilsettingvitenskapelig/ansettelsesvilkar/guidelinespostdoctor.xml
